GEG Chinese Music Promotion Scheme: Taoist Music Extension Programme
The "Music in World Heritage" (樂滿世遺) concert series is one of the highlights of the Macao Chinese Orchestra’s 2020-21 season, themed off of intangible cultural heritages in Macau. For the Taoist ritual music concert performed on 31st October, the Foundation, through its GEG Chinese Music Promotion Scheme and with Hulu Culture Promotion Association, our collaborator on the GEG Intangible Cultural Heritage Scheme, co-organized the concert’s Extension Programme, enabling the audience to have a deeper understanding of Taoist Ritual Music.
The talk, held at the Mandarin's House on 31 October 2020 with Taoist Priest Ng Peng Chi of the Macao Taoist Association as the keynote speaker, was well attended. Mr Ng introduced to participants at the talk the history and historical development of Taoist music, its characteristics, the importance of preservation and promotion of this intangible cultural heritage. Mr Ng also introduced the various musical instruments used during the performance of Taoist music.
